Flatbed bodies are bespoke hand-built cargo bodies on manufacturer chassis, subsequent to the chassis leaving the chassis manufacturer assembly factory. Because the Flatbed body is constructed subsequent to leaving the manufacturer assembly factory, the dimensions of a flatbed body can be tailored to the user’s exact requirements.
Flatbed bodies are general open back cargo bodies used to carry bulky and usually odd shaped cargo loads. They have easy loading and unloading capabilities from the rear or the side, specifically useful where speedy pallet loading is an advantage. Although a Flatbed vehicle can carry weights of over 1 metric tonne, the general loads have a bias towards bulky odd shaped loads that are not required to be secure or covered from the elements.
Because the Flatbed body is built to square dimensions, they tend to be a more versatile option to maximise load Length. All Flatbed bodies come without sides, and offer a versatile loading solution. However, the obvious disadvantage of a Flatbed body is the security of the cargo, if a load is to be left unattended or protection from the elements.
Most Flatbed bodies are generally steel or aluminium construction varied, based on the requirement for weight or durability.
